This Week in the News

We begin with reports on Germany’s ongoing controversy with Islam. While President Christian Wulff exclaims that Islam belongs in Germany and Chancellor Angela Merkel postulates that Germany’s attempt to build a multicultural society has utterly failed, CSU-Leader Horst Seehofer demands a stop to all new immigration. Germany’s “rising star,” Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, has so far apparently refrained from speaking on the issue. Germans are becoming increasingly concerned about Islam and the Muslims among them–so much so that “The Local” already speaks of Germany’s and Europe’s “NEW ANTI-SEMITISM.”

The Dutch government needs to rely on anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders’ Freedom Party, and many observers believe that charges against Wilders for hate speech will soon be dropped. Anti-Muslim sentiments can also be observed in Russia.

France is engulfed in strikes, but the EU has concluded that it does not need to penalize France for their deportation of Roma or Gypsies.

Der Spiegel reports about President Obama’s disappearing “magic,” and it points out HOW MUCH Europe and America are apart.

We also report about the ongoing “hopeless” Afghan war; talk about Israel’s position that “no one will dictate Israel’s borders”; ask how the U.S. midterm elections might affect the Middle East; show how the Lebanese Shiites love the Iranian President; and conclude with Britain’s shock over huge and unprecedented spending cuts.
