We now picture the time of transition from man’s government under the sway of Satan to the intervention in this earth’s affairs and the establishment of the Kingdom of God. This is the fulfillment of the gospel–the good news of the Kingdom of God! The Bible records the record of the kingdoms that have ruled on this earth–kingdoms that have failed! The Word of God also reveals the certainty of a new time of world peace governed by Jesus Christ and the saints of God.

Like God
The fact that we can now have access to the Father through His Son is the underlying message of this Day of Atonement.
We are to become like God, and the preaching of the Gospel focuses on how Jesus Christ made this possible.
The Sound
We are commanded to observe the Feast of Trumpets as a memorial, a commemoration, a reminder of impending events that will find their fulfillment in the return of Jesus Christ. The sound of the blowing of trumpets had unique significance for the nation of Israel and it was often accompanied by awesome events. The future fulfillment of this Feast Day will shock and terrify the world, but it will lead to salvation for those who obey God!
How Do You Know?
So, you believe you are a Christian. But how can you know, for certain?
Upon what do you base your Christianity? Is it that you are a member of a particular church? Is it merely the fact that you have appropriated the name “Christian”–that you give this answer if asked to identify your religion? Perhaps you claim to be Christian because at times, you followed the teachings of the Bible.
Christianity is so much more than these or so many other superficial assertions! Jesus Christ was and is a Christian, and it is to Him that we must look to really know if we are following Him. His life and His way of living are recorded for our edification in the Word of God, the Holy Scriptures, and this is our source for learning about Jesus.
Many claim to be Christians! Many faithfully worship in church services on Sunday mornings, thinking they are doing exactly what Jesus wants them to do, but they are wrong! Many are trying to establish Christianity on this earth in order to solve its problems, but they will fail in this purpose! Others pick and choose some aspect of Biblical teachings, but hold back in total commitment to God! Followers of modern professing Christianity are simply deceived, and have no inkling of the fact that theirs is a false claim when they espouse the Christian religion.
Narrow the focus to yourself. Are you able to evaluate others and see their error? Can you open your Bible and prove what truth is? More importantly, can YOU be guided by the Word of God?
The Bible speaks of the end of the age. It describes a time of great deception: “‘For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect'” (Matthew 24:24). Most people are confident that this deception applies to someone else! Yet, Christ warns His Church not to become complacent (compare Revelation 3:14-22).
Paul puts it this way: “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall” (1 Corinthians 10:12). He further challenges us with the admonition: “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?–unless you are disqualified [margin: do not stand the test]” (2 Corinthians 13:5).
So, how do you know you are a Christian? You examine and test YOURSELF in light of God’s Word, using the standard of Jesus Christ’s life as your guide! Jesus gave us this very specific key: “‘By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another'” (John 13:35). John adds: “By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5:2-3).
How do YOU KNOW you are a Christian?
It Isn't Easy
Even the most righteous have faced supreme trials–trials that took unquestioning faith, courage and perseverance. Sometimes, life itself hung in the balance! The hardest thing we will ever face is our calling to eternal life. The lesson from the Bible and from the examples of those who have preceded us is that it isn’t easy–not for them, not for us and especially not for those who witness the looming events of the close of this age.
I Also Will Keep You
In the face of disaster–such as hurricane Katrina, Christians need to consider what God has both warned and what He has promised. The Bible records examples of people who faced life and death circumstances–unable to sustain themselves–yet, God protected them! God has also promised protection in this time of the end for those who honestly and from the heart serve Him.
The Way
In several references in the Book of Acts, Christianity is simply called “the Way” (Compare Acts 9:2; 19:9, 23; 22:4; 24:14, 22).
It is a fact that those who heard the gospel, who repented, who were baptized and who received God’s Holy Spirit became very different people. They changed their patterns of living by turning whole-heartedly to God. In doing this, they stood out from others–from the religious Jews and from the pagan peoples of the Roman Empire.
It isn’t really so different in our day! If we truly live as Christians, our way of living will not be in harmony with those who are unconverted. Peter addresses this: “For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles [or, the world]–when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you” (1 Peter 4:3-4).
Jesus explains that His followers are lights in a world of darkness. He teaches that each should “‘Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven'” (Matthew 5:16). That “light” is the fruit of God’s Holy Spirit in each of our lives (Compare Galatians 5:22-23). The difference is made even more profound for us in living “the Way”– as we are instructed: “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5).
Thinking as Jesus thought means ALWAYS seeking to do the will of our Father (Compare John 5:19; 5:30; 6:38; 8:28-29; 12:49-50; 14:10). In Hebrews, the incomparable mission for Jesus Christ when He came into the world is summarized: “‘Then I said, “Behold, I have come–In the volume of the book it is written of Me–To do Your will, O God”‘” (Hebrews 10:7).
Only the precious few have ever fully and unconditionally committed themselves to God and to “the Way” of His Son. Those who have–and those who do–have this remarkable promise indelibly recorded in the Word of God: “‘Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever”‘ (Daniel 12:3).
Take Heed
Many times in the Bible, the words, “take heed” are used. That means to discern clearly, to be circumspect, to pay attention or to hearken. For some few, what God said served to awaken them. Today, we, as part of the Church of God, are members of the “household of God” as spoken of in God’s Word. As such, we have unique relationships with God, Jesus Christ and with fellow members. Uniquely, the Church has been given very specific warnings beforehand of prophesied events. Will we believe God and Jesus Christ, and will we really take heed?
The Mercenaries
There are individuals who know better; who, nonetheless, have chosen to compromise truth in order to satisfy their own desires. In secular terms, we might call them mercenaries. For them, the bottom line is personal gain–a greedy desire for money, possessions or prestige. The Bible also contains the record of such evil people who willingly sold themselves for their own interests at the expense of the truth and obedience to God!
